Council 4000 CN Bargaining Update
December 8, 2014
Unifor Council 4000 CN Bargaining Committee met with CN the week of November 24th to 28th in Montreal to continue talks on work rule and other administrative matters.
Talks progressed well last week and the company has come back to the union with items that were pending from our previous sessions. We have covered all of the parties’ respective proposals and feel we are beginning to make some headway on our items.
One amendment to the collective agreements that the committee wants to achieve this round is to update the various classifications and rates of pay of the Council 4000 bargaining unit. There are a number of classifications that get posted in job bulletins which are not properly listed within the collective agreement, based on some departments changing the name of job titles and rates of pay. The collective agreements need to be updated and future bulletins must list the classifications and rates of pay as they are referenced in the collective agreement. The company has been working on reviewing all present classifications and rates of pay and will be in a position to present us with the results so that we may make the necessary adjustments to the collective agreements the next time we meet.
We are cautiously optimistic that we will complete our non-economic issues when we meet again in mid-December, then turn our attention to providing an overview of our economic proposals.
In solidarity,
Unifor Council 4000 CN Master Bargaining Committee
Barry Kennedy – Council 4000 President
Ron Shore – Regional Rep Mountain
Dave Kissack – Regional Rep Prairie
Jared White – Regional Rep Great Lakes
Serge Auger – Regional Rep St. Lawrence
Pat Murray – Regional Rep Atlantic

Myriam Germain – National Rep
Bob Orr – Asst. to the National President
