January 13, 2014
Following ratification meetings, Unifor Local 4001 and National Council 4000 members at Rocky Mountain Catering Company Ltd. voted 88% in favour of a new one year agreement with the company.
Unifor National Representative Bruce Snow praised the bargaining committee comprised of Local Chairperson Melissa Rekve, Vice Local Chairperson Chyi Wu, Shop Steward Hannah May and Council 4000 Regional Representative Ron Shore for their professionalism and perseverance throughout the bargaining process.
The agreement was reached on the evening of December 17, 2013, following various bargaining sessions between the parties. It includes a wage increase of 1.5% and various improvements to contract language within the new collective agreement.
This was a challenging round of negotiations for the Union’s bargaining committee, as Rocky Mountain Catering Co. had to submit a “Request for Proposal” (RFP) to continue with its catering services for Rocky Mountaineer Rail Tours, which is a big part of their business. Understandably, the company had concerns on negotiating a longer contract without knowing how the bidding process in the RFP would materialize.
