On February 26, 2014, more than 1,000 non-unionized container truck drivers who are part of the United Truckers Association (UTA) in the Greater Vancouver area refused to perform moves at Port Metro Vancouver in protest to long wait times and low rates.
Demonstrations were held at Metro Vancouver ports and threats of strike action were made if the port authority (Port Metro Vancouver) failed to address their concerns.
In addition to the concerns of the UTA, unionized truck drivers, members of Unifor-VCTA, expressed similar concerns, in addition to frustrations on working without a contract since June 2012.
