Unifor applies for Conciliation at CN Savage Alberta Railway
November 12, 2014
In a recent RailLINE, we reported that CN had unilaterally submitted a “Notice of Dispute” for bargaining units represented by Local 100 and National Council 4000. As a result of CN's actions in filing a Notice of Dispute, Unifor has now filed a Notice of Dispute to appoint a conciliator for long outstanding bargaining for our members at CN Savage Alberta Railway. It is our expectation that the Minister will make the appointment of a conciliation officer in order that all Unifor bargaining units are on the same schedule.
We have had some difficulty in reaching a tentative agreement with CN, aside from dealing with the concessionary demands by the company in the form of increased flexibility which will take away from the customary assigned work environment for our members, CN Rail is making incredible demands on our members in exchange for entry into the CN Pension Plan as CN employees.
At this point in the bargaining, we were left with no choice but to file our request for conciliation in line with CN‘s applications, which will undoubtedly bring the necessary focus on these outstanding issues for our members.
We are intent on reaching a fair and reasonable settlement and appreciate the ongoing support of our members at Savage Alberta Railway.
In solidarity,
