Unifor National Council 4000 support the CTAO

Toronto Area container truckers commenced a strike at 12:01 a.m. EST on September 8, 2015 over long work hours, a decade of low rates, long wait time, increasing costs to maintain their trucks, for greater dignity and respect and to be seen and classified as skilled trade workers. The concerns expressed by the Container Trucking Association of Ontario (CTAO) is shared by many truck drivers who work as independent contractors and owner-operators in the container trucking industry.

The CTAO is a non-profit association dedicated to representing, servicing and supporting the needs of independent contractors, small business owners and drivers in the Container Trucking Industry.
Unifor Council 4000 and its fiver Regional Local Unions across Canada represent 890 Owner Operator truck drivers who are dependent contractors with Canadian National Transportation Ltd. (CNTL), a subsidiary of Canadian National Railway Co. and haul CN's Intermodal traffic. Unifor Council 4000 also represents Owner Operators at DHL and Loomis in Atlantic Canada. Unifor Council 4000 represents over 4,500 Unifor members in all 10 Canadian Provinces.
