Unifor CN Collective Agreements uploaded on unifor4000.com
June 6, 2016
We have uploaded all our current collective agreements that we negotiated with CN last February on unifor4000.com – Agreement 5.1, Agreement 5.1 Supplemental Agreement, Agreement 5.4, CN Transportation Ltd. (CNTL) and CN Savage Alberta Railway (CNSAR). All are in ‘pdf’ format. You may access them by going to the ‘Resources’ section located in the top menu bar, and scroll down to ‘Collective Agreements’ where you will find these, along with all the other collective agreements of our Unifor Council 4000 membership across Canada.
Many CN members have expressed concern over the lengthy delay that CN has taken in printing the hard copies of our collective agreements. The CN Savage Alberta Railway and CNTL Collective Agreements have been published and distributed amongst the membership, but we are still awaiting copies of Agreement 5.1, Agreement 5.1 Supplemental and Agreement 5.4. |
These agreements were in fact printed, but an error was discovered in the rate table sections so they were not distributed. The last update the Union received from the Company (last week) is that the amended versions are being reprinted now. All CN collective agreements are printed at the Company’s Reproduction Centre located at its headquarters location in downtown Montreal. It is staffed by CN Agreement 5.1 members of Unifor Council 4000 and Local 4004.
All our CN collective agreements contain provisions - Articles 37.1 of Agreement 5.1; 32.8 of the Supplemental Agreement; 31.1 of Agreement 5.4; and 33.01 of the CNSAR Agreement - where the Company agrees to undertake the responsibility for the printing of the collective agreements within 60 days of signing the Master Agreements. Despite these contractual provisions, CN is never on time, largely due to the management in the Montreal Reproduction Centre placing the printing of all Union collective agreements at the bottom of their priority list. We have addressed this matter with the Company on numerous occasions and are considering filing a grievance requesting damages, as members blame the Union for these delays when in fact the Company is responsible for the printing, as evident by the terms contained in the collective agreements.
