Unifor Council 4000 VIA Rail Strike Vote Results

Unifor held numerous information meetings with our VIA Rail membership all across Canada from May 30th to June 3rd. During these meetings, the Union conducted strike votes to gather support from our 2,200 Unifor members employed at the Crown corporation.
The overall strike vote results for Unifor Council 4000 and our members governed under Agreement 1 (off board services) and Agreement 2 (on board services) was 96 percent of the membership voting in favour of taking strike action if necessary.

Atlantic Canada:
Agreement 1 – 96.6% Agreement 2 – 100% |
Quebec and City of Ottawa:
Agreement 1 – 97% Agreement 2 – 100% |
Ontario:
Agreement 1 – 93.8% Agreement 2 – 100% |
Manitoba/Saskatchewan:
Agreement 1 – 86.6% Agreement 2 – 96.3% |
Alberta/British Columbia:
Agreement 1 – 94% Agreement 2 – 98% |
VIA Rail members of Unifor Local 100, which represents shop craft workers at VIA, was also 96 percent.
Starting today in Gatineau, Quebec, across the Ottawa River from Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Unifor begins a final round of bargaining with VIA with a strong strike mandate that overwhelming supports the Union's bargaining committees.
The bargaining committees - Council 4000 and Local 100 - will meet every day right through to the bargaining deadline of 23:59 EDT on Sunday, June 12, 2016 with the assistance of conciliators from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services (FMCS). Legal strike action may begin at 00:01 hours on June 13 if a fair and reasonable deal cannot be reached.
