Unifor and VIA Rail continue negotiations the week of May 2
May 1, 2016
Unifor and VIA Rail will meet the week of May 2, 2016 in Montreal to continue negotiations on new collective agreements for the more than 2,200 Unifor members who are employed at the Crown corporation. This will be the first bargaining session since Unifor filed an application with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services (FMCS) on March 17, requesting the assistance of federal conciliators.
The Union will begin making preparations in the coming weeks to conduct membership information meetings and strike votes across Canada. Dates, times and locations will be announced once preparations are completed. Conducting a strike vote is an important part of the process at this stage of negotiations, and will clearly indicate to the Corporation that the bargaining committees have the full support of the membership in its endeavour to achieve a fair and equitable settlement on behalf of the Unifor members employed at VIA Rail Canada.
