Unifor Council 4000 VIA Rail Bargaining Update and VIA Strike Votes
May 21, 2016
Unifor National Council 4000 wrapped up another week of negotiations with VIA Rail May 16 to 20 in Montreal. Unfortunately, there still remains a couple of items that the parties could not come to terms on, but these will remain on the table as we recommence talks on June 6 in Gatineau, Quebec, where we will bargain right through to the deadline of 23:59 EDT on June 12. Legal strike action may begin at 00:01 hours on June 13 if a deal is not reached. The final 7 days of bargaining will include economic discussions on wages and benefits.
As we enter the final stages of bargaining leading up to the June 13 strike date, Unifor Council 4000 and Local 100 have made arrangements to conduct strike votes across the country. These votes are incredibly important to give the Corporation the clear message that our membership is in full support of their Union bargaining committees. We encourage full participation at these meetings where a report will be provided to the membership. Results of the strike votes will be released on June 5, 2016.
