Overview following Unifor's September 21 meeting with CN and CNTL in Calgary
October 2, 2016
Unifor met with representatives of CN and CNTL on September 21, 2016 in Calgary in regards to the alleged illegal strike actions by some CNTL Calgary Owner-Operators on September 11, 12 and 13. The meeting was requested by the Union to address the various complaints of our membership concerning, among other items, CNTL Owner-Operators from Kamloops and Vancouver, B.C. being dispatched to more lucrative highway runs, and the ongoing disrespect shown them by CNTL management and dispatchers.
During this meeting, the Union presented a 3-page list of concerns of which CN/CNTL took seriously and has committed to examining them and taking necessary and appropriate action. Concerns pertaining to dispatch, the Company has said that they will have driver managers arrange meetings with the dispatchers where the dialogue can be started to allow for a review of members’ concerns. CN suggests meeting again with Union officials in 6 weeks to review the progress. |
Unifor Council 4000 Regional Representative Wesley Gajda who is responsible for servicing our CNTL membership all across Canada, issued a letter and communique to our Calgary membership [click on the link below], which includes and overview from CN as to the discussions during the September 21st meeting and their commitments going forward.
