Unifor and Loomis Express open bargaining in Vancouver
January 17, 2017
Unifor and one of Canada’s largest courier companies, Loomis Express, have begun contract negotiations this week in Vancouver. Unifor says that respectful treatment of the employees, contracting out and economic issues will dominate the bargaining.
“We look forward to negotiating a contract that reflects the massive contributions of workers to this company’s success and sets a more respectful working environment for the employees,” said Todd Romanow, Unifor National Representative.
Unifor represents 1,600 workers at Loomis Express, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Transforce Incorporated (TSE:TFI). Loomis workers are covered by a national collective agreement with associated provincial addendums. The agreement expires on March 31, 2017.
Unifor members include hourly drivers, owner operators, call centre staff, clerical, and warehouse workers.
Unifor National Council 4000 and Local 4005 represent the 117 Loomis members in Atlantic Canada based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; Fredericton, Grand Falls, Miramichi, Moncton and St. John, New Brunswick; and Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
Unifor Council 4000 Regional Representative Jennifer Murray is a member of the Loomis Bargaining Committee along with Local 4005 Loomis members Tim Feener from Nova Scotia, Ron Arsenault from New Brunswick and Roy MacKenzie from PEI.
