CN, CNTL and Savage Alberta Railway Update
December 17, 2014
The Master Unifor Bargaining Committees represented by Local 100 and National Council 4000 have been working diligently these past few weeks presenting our bargaining proposals and having CN Rail address the many non-economic issues. Since our meetings in September and October:
Assistant to Unifor President Bob Orr joined each of the Master Bargaining Committees in Montreal on Tuesday, December 16 as negotiations resumed this week. CN has indicated that they are fully prepared to work towards a settlement prior to the expiry of the agreements (December 31, 2014) and while this type of statement is important from the corporation, it must be supported by clear evidence. CN still has a number of concessionary items on the table dealing with right of selection, overtime rules, meal periods, General Holiday pay, fuel subsidy to name a few, along with estoppel notices on a number of issues. Brother Orr impressed upon CN Rail that if Unifor is to reach a “clean sweep” settlement with CN on all Unifor collective agreements, these concessions must disappear off the bargaining table and the corporation must address the outstanding items.
Unifor President Jerry Dias also joined the Master Committees on Wednesday, December 17th and addressed the corporation in an afternoon session, identifying the key issues for Shopcraft, Owner Operators, Intermodal, Excavators and Savage Alberta Rail which must be finalized before the union will even contemplate moving to the economic issues.
We urge our members once again, not to listen to rumours or innuendoes and should questions arise, members should contact their Union Representative or Vice-Presidents respectively.
