Update on Unifor Local 4001 President John Dowell
November 20, 2015
As we reported on November 12, John Dowell was finally removed from the ICU at an Edmonton hospital where he has been hospitalized since receiving emergency surgery for abdominal pain on Saturday, October 3, 2015. He will most likely remain in hospital over the Christmas holidays. But we have further good news to report!
Unifor Council 4000 President Barry Kennedy received a text message from Brother Dowell on Tuesday evening, initially believing that it may had been John's wife Debbie. But John said it was him texting and asked him to call. "It was a great feeling to see a text from John and to be able to call and talk with him. Its been over a month and half since I have done either. We have all been very worried about his health, and quite frankly if he was going to make it. So to be able to speak with him was really great. Considering what he has been through, he sounded good. I hope to see him soon", explained Kennedy.
John wants to thank everyone for their concerns and well wishes. He is a few weeks away before he will be comfortable to see any visitors, but is very thankful for the warm thoughts and prayers that have been extended to his family. Hospital staff are hoping to get him up and walking over the next couple of days.
Herc Kallergis, Vice President of Local 4001 is handling the duties of Local 4001 President during John's absence.
