On August 8 and 9, 2016 in Kamloops, British Columbia, Unifor members at Rocky Mountain Catering Co. (RMCC) ratified a new two-year collective agreement with the Company by a margin of 97%. They are members of Unifor Council 4000 and Local 4001, employed as Sous Chefs, Cooks, Culinary Crew Members and kitchen personnel based in Vancouver and Kamloops.

We reported on March 26 this year that Unifor had reached a one-year agreement with RMCC. But in July, Rocky Mountain Catering approached the Union when an issue came up over accommodations of members working while on the road that they – RMCC – were unable to fulfill within the current contract language in the collective agreement. As a result, the parties’ agreed to enter into early negotiations on a new collective agreement that would commence at the completion of the current agreement that expires at 23:59 Pacific Time on December 31, 2016.
The new agreement ratified on August 8 and 9 will cover a two-year period, expiring on December 31, 2017. It will provide members returning for the 2017 season with a 2% wage increase and a 1% wage increase to all assignments for newly hired employees in 2017. The agreement that was ratified in March provided returning members with a 2% increase for the year 2016.
Additionally, RMCC members will receive a one-time lump sum of $300 as a gratuity payment for 2016, and a $300 gratuity payment for 2017, to be paid on a separate cheque. This is on top of the 10% bonus at the conclusion of the train season each year.
These negotiations were handled by Unifor Council 4000 Regional Representative Ron Shore and National Representative Bruce Snow. This is a good agreement for our 56 members at the Rocky Mountain Catering Co. and we commend both Brothers Shore and Snow on a job well done.
In addition to preparing gourmet meals on-board the Rocky Mountaineer train that runs through the Rocky Mountains in B.C. and Alberta, RMCC also caters events in the B.C. Interior and Lower Mainland of the Greater Vancouver Area.
