Unifor Council 4000 to start negotiations with Toronto Terminals Railway January 21
January 18, 2016

The Unifor National Council 4000 Toronto Terminals Railway (TTR) Bargaining Committee will start actual negotiations with TTR on January 21 and 22, 2016 in Toronto. The official opening, which included an informal exchange of proposals from both sides, took place on December 3, 2015.

The Company submitted a short list of contract proposals, but this short list includes items that are contradictory with some of the Union’s proposals. TTR wants revisions within the collective agreement that they view as improving operational efficiencies and providing greater flexibility in terms of hours of work, rest days and filling positions. TTR also discussed with the Union the operational requirements placed on them by Metrolinx, an agency of the Government of Ontario and the operators of GO Transit and UP Express, and the relationship and role of TTR with Metrolinx going forward.

The Union's bargaining proposals were formulated based on our members' suggestions as compiled during our TTR Bargaining Surveys completed in July, as well as input from representatives of the bargaining committee. Paid sick leave, improved benefits and wages were the key items going into this round of negotiations.
