Unifor Council 4000 continues negotiations with VIA Rail this week (January 25 to 29)
January 25, 2016
Unifor Council 4000 will head back to the bargaining table with VIA Rail Canada the week of January 25 to January 29, 2016, in Montreal, the first meeting between the parties in the New Year. The last bargaining session concluded on November 27.
Despite two full weeks of negotiations to this point in time, there is not much to report in terms of any progress being made. Nothing has been agreed to between the parties. So far, talks have been extensive in understanding the bargaining proposals of both sides, but nothing has been agreed to.
The Union is hopeful that this week, the Corporation will start to agree in principle on some of the Union's proposals, and alternatively, the Union will have to consider some some of the Corporation's as part of the collective bargaining process.
Collective bargaining is a give and take process of proposals and counter-proposals, offers and counter-offers, a process that in the end both parties reach a settlement that is mutually acceptable to both. The Union's membership is the ultimate authority that ratifies the settlement on the behalf of the Union.
We will provide an update next week as to this week's round of talks.
