Laura Hazlitt elected new Regional Representative of Unifor National Council 4000
December 29, 2017
With the election of Dave Kissack as the new President of Unifor National Council 4000 on October 31, 2017, Council 4000 held an election to replace him as the Regional Representative for Council 4000’s Prairie Region, servicing Local 4002 members at VIA Rail Canada and CN.
This election was completed on December 21, 2017, and Laura Hazlitt was elected as the new Regional Representative for the Council’s (and Unifor Local 4002) Prairie Region membership. We thank Brother Dan Bydak, who is the Local Chairperson for Local 4002’s membership at CN’s Transcona Shops, for his running as a candidate in this important election. Sister Hazlitt has been employed with VIA Rail for 20-years and has held a variety of positions on-board VIA Rail’s passenger trains, working under Collective Agreement No. 2 based in Winnipeg. Over these years, she has also held a variety of positions with her Union, including Chairperson of the Winnipeg VIA Health and Safety Committee, and Local Chairperson for VIA Agreement 2 members based in Winnipeg. |
Laura's term as Regional Representative will run from December 22, 2017 to June 30, 2021.
Of interest with this election, we would be remiss not to mention that Sister Hazlitt's father, Dave Mercer Hazlitt, served as Council 4000 Regional Representative for VIA Rail Western Canada members and from Rocky Mountaineer from July 1, 2000 to June 30, 2009.
Laura Hazlitt will be based in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
