Dave Kissack elected new President of Unifor National Council 4000
December 29, 2017
Dave Kissack was elected as the new President of Unifor National Council 4000 on October 31, 2017 following a second ballot run-off election against challenger Mark Robinson, Regional Representative for Council 4000’s Great Lakes Region servicing Unifor Local 4003 members at CN and Toronto Terminals Railway. Over the last 8+ years, Brother Kissack has served as the Regional Representative for Council 4000’s Prairie Region servicing Local 4002 members at CN and VIA Rail Canada. From 2009 to 2012, Dave also serviced Local 4001 members as Regional Representative for members employed at Rocky Mountain Catering Co. and VIA Rail.
Unifor Local 4005 President Steven Harding has served as the interim President of Council 4000 since June 1, 2017. Brother Harding did a great job during his almost 7-month stint as the President of the Council. We thank him for his dedicated service during this time. Dave Kissack replaces long-time Council 4000 President Barry Kennedy, who served in this capacity from September 2009 to June 1, 2017 prior to his appointment as National Representative with Unifor. Brother Kennedy replaced Bob Fitzgerald who retired June 1st after many years of Union service. Kennedy continues to service the Council 4000 membership as National Representative. |
Brother Kissack brings a wealth of experience to his new role in leading Council 4000. He comes from out of VIA Rail, where he hired in 1984 and worked in a variety of classifications, the last being as a Red Sealed Chef on-board VIA Rail passenger trains based in Winnipeg. He also holds a ‘Journeyman’s Red Seal Trades Certification’ as a motor vehicle mechanic, which was why past President Kennedy appointed him as the Skilled Trades Coordinator for Council 4000, a position he will continue to hold during his tenure as Council President.
Dave has also served in a variety of capacities with the Union during his 15 years experience with the CAW and Unifor, including: Local Chairperson servicing VIA Rail Collective Agreement 2 members (2002-2008); Health and Safety Committee Chairperson; Member of the Executive Boards of Local 4002 (2002-2017) and Local 4001 from (2009-2012) and the Executive Board of Council 4000 representing all the Council’s Regional Representatives from 2013 to 2017. Since 2009, Brother Kissack has also served as a member of the Council’s Bargaining Committees for negotiations with CN, VIA Rail and Rocky Mountain Catering Co.
Brother Kissack will continue to work out of the Council’s Winnipeg office.
