Unifor Council 4000 President Barry Kennedy appointed as National Representative

With the announcement of the retirement of National Representative Bob Fitzgerald effective June 1, 2017, Unifor National President Jerry Dias announced the appointment of Unifor National Council 4000 President Barry Kennedy as National Representative to replace Fitzgerald.
Brother Kennedy was recently elected as President for a fourth term during the Council’s 6th Triennial Convention in Winnipeg, Manitoba on November 25, 2016. He has been actively involved in the Union for 24 plus years and has been the President of Unifor National Council 4000 since 2009, being acclaimed four terms. Council 4000 has more than 4,900 members across Canada, largely in the rail and transportation industry. Prior to Barry's role as President, he spent almost 10-years as a full-time elected Regional Representative for Council 4000. As National Representative, Brother Kennedy will be assigned to service members of Council 4000 and its' five Regional Local Unions at CN, CN Transportation Ltd., Toronto Terminals Railway and VIA Rail Canada. He will also serve Local 100 members at Algoma Central Railway and Local 103 members at Ontario Northland. |
During his time as President, Barry chaired the Council’s National Bargaining Committees at CN, CNTL and VIA Rail Canada and the Regional Bargaining Committees at CN Savage Alberta Railway and Toronto Terminals Railway. In addition, he has served as the Treasurer of the Unifor Rail Industry Council, Co-Chairperson on the CN Pension Committee, CN LTD Committee and the Canadian Railway Office of Arbitration (CROA) Administrative Committee. He also serves as Unifor’s representative on CN’s EFAP Senior Advisory Committee, and up until December 31, 2016, represented Unifor Council 4000 on the CN Policy Health and Safety Committee.
Barry has been married to his wife Rachelle for 18 years. He enjoys sports (hockey, football, golf and MMA) and gardening in his spare time.

Election forthcoming for Unifor National Council 4000 President
With the upcoming departure of Barry Kennedy on June 1, 2017, Council 4000 Vice President and Unifor Local 4005 President Steven Harding will serve as the interim President of Council 4000 until an election is completed. Nominations for the position of Council 4000 President will be posted to the full Council 4000 membership (our five Regional Local Unions across Canada) on May 26, 2017. An election will follow. During the National Council 4000 Executive Board meeting held May 13th in Toronto, the Council’s Executive voted unanimously to conduct the election for Council 4000 President electronically through the services of ‘Simply Voting’. Over the next couple of weeks, members will be mailed information about the election and how to vote on the internet. Members who do not have access to the internet must contact their respective member of the Council 4000 Election Committee and they will be provided information on how to vote in an alternative method.
