Thanks to Unifor Local 4002/Council 4000 from Winnipeg’s Willow Place
January 30, 2017
We posted an article at the end of 2016 regarding Unifor Local 4002’s 25th Annual Smoker social event, which was held in conjunction with the start of the Unifor National Council 4000 Convention held in Winnipeg, Manitoba, November 25-26.
A huge raffle was held with numerous prizes donated by Unifor Local 4002, Council 4000, the Unifor National Union and employers of the Local 4002 membership. Proceeds of the raffle went to Willow Place, an emergency shelter in Winnipeg for women and their children leaving family violence situations. At the conclusion of the Council 4000 Convention, a dinner and dance was held at the Fort Garry Hotel and where a cheque of $8,981.00 was presented to Marcie Wood, Community Coordinator of Willow Place. Ms. Wood thanked Local 4002 for their efforts and the generous donation of the fundraising proceeds for the women and children served by Willow Place. “As you know, many women and children in our community go without basic necessities due to a variety of factors, which include poverty and domestic violence. While all of us are susceptible to hard times, women and children are at the most risk, and they are the clients we serve”, explained Wood. Click here to read Ms. Wood’s letter to Local 4002. (PDF) |
