Unifor Local 4001 President John Dowell released from hospital
January 11, 2016
It is with much pleasure we report that John Dowell, President of Unifor Local 4001, was finally released from hospital on January 8, 2016, where he has been since being admitted on October 3, 2015. He is finally at home resting comfortably.
Unifor Council 4000 President Barry Kennedy went to visit Brother Dowell on December 23rd, just before Christmas. "It was a nice visit. John was crossing all his fingers hoping that he would be released in the New Year," said Kennedy. "He was allowed to return home a couple of times for a few hours only. He looked good, but was still sounding weak in his voice and he obviously lost a lot of weight. But the main thing is that he is on the road to recovery. We all thought we were going to lose him. He was really sick," explained Kennedy.
John's family extend thanks and warm wishes to the staff of the Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton for the incredible care they gave John during the three months he was hospitalized. John and his family want to thank everyone for their concerns and well wishes during this stressful time for their family.
Herc Kallergis, Acting President of Local 4001 extends his warm wishes to John. "I wish him a speedy recovery to good health and say, on behalf of the Local 4001 Executive and our membership, we are thankful that he is now at home", said Kallergis. Brother Kallergis will continue handling the duties of Local 4001 President until further advised.
Brother Dowell is weighing his options on his future plans for the coming months, but his first priority is his health.
All five Regional Local Unions will be holding elections this spring for various Local Executive positions, including Local Presidents and Secretary Treasurers.
